CHARLOTTE - Colby Hill knows what it’s like to become a werewolf. Or at least he has a pretty good idea of how to become one after auditioning for this year’s SCarowinds’ Halloween themed monster mash.

Each year, Carowinds theme park celebrates Halloween by having individuals dress up as monsters and scare the crowds when the park is open at night. Carowinds is currently holding auditions for individuals wanting to become ghouls and monsters at the park.

Auditions are this Friday and Saturday.

Hill, 16, of Concord, was one of the individuals who came out during a previous audition. Hill loves monster movies, such as “Halloween” and “Freddy Vs. Jason,” and has been wanting to be a part of SCarowinds ever since he went to the event.

He said the auditions had him screaming and moaning and at one point he was told to act like a werewolf. Hill borrowed inspiration from the werewolves in the movie, “Underworld,” when he slipped into character.

“I was walking around on my tippy toes and howling,” Hill said. “Just on short notice that’s what I could think of.”

Hill said if anyone plans to audition they should be ready to become any kind of monster they can think of.

“I didn’t expect what they were going to do, but I think it was pretty fun,” he said. “Prepare for the unexpected.”

Hill said when he auditioned there were about seven people with him. He found out about the auditions through a friend.

“It was crazy,” he said. “I wasn’t expecting it so I just acted the best way I could.”

Hill said he’s now waiting while officials continue to hold more auditions.

“It was fun,” he said. “And I hope I get a part.”

Carowinds is currently casting for SCarowinds, which has the park become a giant haunted theme park at night.

SCarowinds is looking for nearly 300 people who will spook visitors at the park. Those picked will play a variety of ghouls, ghosts and goblins. Many of those cast will be a part of the Creeper Corps.

“The Creeper Corps is enthusiastic, highly energetic, and seriously terrifying,” according to a news release. “Those who truly appreciate Halloween and all things frightful are strongly encouraged to apply.”
